A Tribute to David Hockney
David Hockney, who passed away on June 11, 2026, has always held a special place in our hearts. For decades, it was an annual pleasure to help David with his holiday gifts. Every holiday season, he selected our largest chocolate box to send to friends and colleagues across the United States and England.
While it was a privilege to call him a customer, like so many others, we also found lasting inspiration in his work. As Angelenos, it's difficult to imagine Los Angeles without David Hockney's vision of it. His swimming pools, landscapes, portraits, and later digital works celebrated California's light, color, and sense of possibility.
When we began reimagining our business, we found ourselves returning not only to David's work, but to the way he worked. Throughout his career, he moved effortlessly between painting, photography, photocopiers, fax machines, and later the iPad. He was never concerned with whether a medium was considered traditional or unconventional, high or low.
As we looked to reinvent our decades-old business, it was only natural to ask: "What would David do?" His continual reinvention became a inspiration and reinforced our belief that when evolution is approached with artistry and a personal touch, it will always be rewarding.
In reflecting on David's passing, I searched through old holiday orders. Sure enough, filed under "H", was David's 2010 holiday order attached to a fax cover sheet. True to his ideology, the cover sheet wasn't merely a piece of correspondence, it was an everyday ritual turned into joy.

Looking at that fax today, we're reminded that, for David, creativity wasn't confined to the canvas. It was simply a way of seeing the world.
